Prepare for the Cape Wrath Ultra® with Trail Running Scotland

We are delighted to be working with Ian Stewart from Trail Running Scotland. He will be looking after all the official recce and preparation events for the Cape Wrath Ultra®.

Ian finished 7th place in the 2018 Cape Wrath Ultra® and described finishing “broken and exhausted but blown away by the experience”.

The quality of the route and epic nature of the event drew him back and using lessons learned in 2018, he went onto win the 2021 edition of the event.

Based in Aviemore, the Cairngorms, and working as a running guide for his own guiding company, Trail Running Scotland, he is exceptionally well placed to guide Cape Wrath Ultra® participants through their preparation for this exciting but tough adventure.

We invite you to browse the courses on offer below, all of which will help you expertly prepare for success on the Cape Wrath Ultra®.

Cape Wrath Ultra® preparation weekends:

This weekend will equip you with all of the technical skills required for success at the Cape Wrath Ultra®. As well as that, it will be a great opportunity to meet other participants to share your experiences.

The following will be covered over the weekend: navigation, running with poles, descending technique, physical preparation, strength and conditioning.

Cape Wrath Ultra® Recce Weekends

These are long days out, designed to give you a chance to get onto the terrain, and discover what the course has in store. Moving as a team, you will cover whole race days, or significant selected portions of the longest days. A consistent run/walk pace will be required to move at a pace that would comfortably get within the cut-off times for the race.
