Five people explain how the Cape Wrath Ultra® changed their life

The Cape Wrath Ultra® is an epic adventure, but can it change your life? Our participants and event team weigh in…

“The adventure of a lifetime”

For Henry, the Cape Wrath Ultra had been on his mind since 2017, but it wasn’t until 2022 that he finally made it to the start line.

My expectation of this event was enormous, having had a five-year lead in. The potential for disappointment in these scenarios is huge, but the Cape Wrath Ultra was everything I hoped it would be – the adventure of a lifetime.

Henry was particularly impressed by the Event Team. “This event was made by the kindness, friendliness and support from all the staff members/volunteers. When you're scraping along at the back of the field, it makes all the difference in keeping the morale up.”

“It will stay etched on my soul”

Claire Gordon had a tremendous run on the Cape Wrath Ultra in 2022. In spite of the rough weather they experienced, she came 3rd lady in an impressive performance.

It’s the memories of the Cape Wrath Ultra that linger and make me realise that this was much more than a ‘race’ or an ‘ultra’. I think it will stay etched on my soul

“The camaraderie is like nothing else I’ve ever experienced in a race”

Nicole Morgan also ran the Cape Wrath Ultra in 2022. With a background in triathlons, this was a very different challenge for her, but she certainly rose to it.

For her, the other participants and the event team were the highlight of the event. “The people make it, and the camaraderie is like nothing else I’ve ever experienced in a race.”

If you’re thinking of signing up, I wholeheartedly recommend you to do so. It won’t be easy, but you will have an unforgettable experience no matter what happens out there.

“An experience like no other that will change your life”

Patrick came all the way from Colorado in the United States of America to run the Cape Wrath Ultra®. For him, this was a way to connect with his Scottish heritage.

He said, “It was one of the hardest and greatest experiences of my life.”

If you are on the fence to sign up, I encourage you to go for it. An experience like no other that will change your life.

“Volunteering is a life changing experience”

As a regular volunteer, Tammy has seen the other side of the event. However, the experience has been no less life-changing.

She said: “Volunteering for Ourea is a life-changing experience. You make lifelong friends, both from the volunteers and competitors, as you are all of the same mindset and share experiences together. This brings you close to each other in ways that “normal life” can’t compare.”

They say you can’t choose your family, but we’ve all chosen this one, and I wouldn’t swap it for anything.
— Tammy, regular volunteer

After helping so many other participants achieve their goals, Tammy will be taking part in the Cape Wrath Ultra® in 2023!
